Rock Ridge High School - Summer 2014

Summer 2014 – Nearly Ready for Students!

UPDATE:  Rock Ridge High School is now OPEN!

There’s a new school coming to Loudoun County – Rock Ridge High School.

Because of the rapid growth of Loudoun County, the school system has consistently been building schools for the past years.  Rock Ridge High School is set to open in September 2014, in time for the 2014-2015 school year.  And with it, another redrawing of the Loudoun County School Boundary Map!

Located on Loudoun Drive in Loudoun Valley Estates,  Rock Ridge will be right next to Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, which opened in 2007.

It doesn’t look like much yet, but construction goes quickly!  Loudoun County Public Schools is one of the fastest growing school systems in the area, and has a lot of experience in building new schools.

In a meeting last May 14, LCPS approved Rock Ridge High School’s first principal. John Duellman will be serving as the principal of the LCPS’s 14th high school. He is the current principal of Mercer Middle School in Aldie, and will officially become the principal of Rock Ridge High School on July 1st.

Construction started in the Spring of 2013 and Rock Ridge High School will be Open for new students in just over 1 year!  It will provide immediate and welcome relief to overcrowded schools like Briar Woods High School.

Opening a new high school affects middle schools too – the student population gets redistributed as middle schools and elementary schools will begin feeding into the new high school.  Stone Hill Middle School, Creighton’s Corner Elementary, Legacy Elementary, and Rosa Lee Carter Elementary schools will all be affected in the coming years.

Loudoun Schools Boundaries adopted for 2014Being the fastest growing school division in Northern Virginia, Loudoun County Public School continues to strive to provide for the needs of the rapidly growing student population in the county. For several years now, LCPS has been opening a new school every school year and this will continue for several years.

The NoVa Real Estate Group can help you keep track of the many changes and development happening in Loudoun County Public School system. New school zones have been adopted by LCPS and will mainly affect the areas of Ashburn, Brambleton, and Leesburg. Here is a quick preview of what to expect in the future:

  • Discovery Elementary School in Ashburn is opening this coming September 2013.
  • Moorefield Elementary School is also opening this coming school year, and is located in the southern part of Ashburn.
  • Trailside Middle School (MS-6) is located adjacent to the Newton-Lee Elementary School and will open in the school year 2014-2015.
  • Rock Ridge High School (HS-6), very recently named high school is located adjacent to Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School and will open in the school year 2014-2015.
  • Riverside High School (HS-8), the other recently named high school will be constructed adjacent to Belmont Ridge Middle School in the Lansdowne development. Riverside High School is slated to open at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
