Rock Ridge High School is NOW OPEN!
Rock Ridge High School is being built adjacent to Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School and is the newest high school that will soon be serving Loudoun County. Previously named HS-6, the opening of Rock Ridge High School is scheduled for school year 2014-15.
The School Board expedited the construction of the school to be completed in August 2014, so that it will be open in time for the 2014 school year. This decision was necessary because Briar Woods High School was projected to be 655 students over capacity in 2014; there were already extra trailers at Briar Woods used to handle extra students as early as the 2012-2013 school year.
Prior to this decision, there have been talks of moving some Briar Woods students to John Champe High School. Thanks to the efforts of the community and the School Board, it was suggested that expediting the opening of Rock Ridge High School (HS-6) would be the better option.
Rock Ridge High School will be a 2-story, 280,000 sq.ft building with a capacity of 1800 students. Most of the students from Brambleton will be attending this school when it opens, while most of the students at Belmont Country Club are slated to attend Riverside High School (formerly called HS-8), which will open the following school year.
The school boundaries have already been drawn, and naturally Rock Ridge HS opening will affect the boundaries of nearby Loudoun County High Schools. See our Loudoun County School Boundary Map for more detailed information.
Stone Hill Middle School as well as Creighton’s Corner Elementary School and Legacy Elementary School will all send students to Rock Ridge High School. And of course, Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, the next door neighbor to Rock Ridge, will send students too!
Principal: John Duellman
Mr. Duellman started on July 1, 2013 as principal … so the Rock Ridge High School character will start to take shape, including school Colors, Mascot, and logo … which will be decided soon.
