Best High Schools in Virginia

Find the Best High Schools in Virginia here in Loudoun County

Loudoun County Public Schools new office - Ashburn VAWe live and we learn; it may be a cliché, but one that Loudoun County High Schools treasure and abide by. With some of the best high schools in Virginia, Loudoun County can’t afford to rest on its laurels, because its population is booming and its schools are literally overflowing with new students.

Loudoun County Public Schools are some of the state and the nation’s top rated institutions, and their allure draws in thousands of new residents every year. Briar Woods HS, Loudoun Valley HS and Stone Bridge HS have offered the best that Loudoun County High Schools could possibly offer, and they have been joined by Rock Ridge HS to relieve some of the pressure created by the influx of new students. Riverside HS will also be opening its doors in the 2015-2016 school year, and its principal will be stepping down from the same position held for nearly a decade at a different high-school to serve the students of Riverside.

Heritage HS and Loudoun County High School ranked among the top 1% in the country in 2012, while many of the 15 Loudoun County High Schools have been dubbed the Best High Schools in Virginia over the years. With some of the best graduation rates and SAT scores in the state, it’s no wonder these public schools attract so many new residents.

SAT scores for Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington are all comfortably higher than the state average, and considerably higher still than the national average, making Northern Virginia the crown jewel of the state’s public school system.

The interesting thing about Loudoun County High Schools is that they tend to score similarly and there is little leeway in the educational programs, especially as so many new high schools are built and students and teachers are reassigned to different schools. There is greater stability here than you’d have in Fairfax, for instance, where test results and school ratings vary considerably from one institution to the next. The residents of Loudoun County also enjoy similar wage bands, cheaper housing and tens of flourishing new communities with diverse and rich backgrounds, which tends to reflect positively in their school performance.

The residents sing the LCPS’ praises, but they’re not alone. The Virginia Department of Education commended Loudoun County on nearly 40 of its practices, and made 60 or so recommendations that are bound to improve both school performance and local funding in the near future.

But most importantly, every new school that is erected for the local children walks in the footpath of the Loudoun County Schools before it, carrying on the legacy of the Best High Schools in Virginia and producing more and more skilled, gifted and talented students with each new generation, which serve to make Loudoun County even greater.

Loudoun Schools Are Growing And Changing With Loudoun County

Loudoun Schools Are Growing And Changing With Loudoun County

Loudoun_County_High_SchoolA nook that Northern Virginia has hid so well from public attention these past few decades, Loudoun County, its communities, and the plethora of Loudoun Schools available to residents are now firmly in the spotlight, where they will most likely remain for many years to come. Loudoun County High Schools, middle schools, elementary school and kindergartens have been drawing people to this once quaint, rural alcove, in the hope that their children will achieve excellent school results, as has historically been the case.

The county with the highest median income in the USA for its population levels, Loudoun becomes larger and stronger with each passing year. With a steady population of under 25,000 residents between 1790 and 1960, the county has nearly doubled its demographic figures every decade thereafter.

True to its motto, the county has ‘bid its time’ and is now catching up with the most developed counties in the state. It mutated from a rural hotspot into a melting pot of nationalities and cultures. Together they cooperate, thrive and contribute to the growth and changes in Loudoun County. This synergy of forces has created given rise to a wealth of new developments in the area, with builders flocking to revamp the local landscape into a residential haven.

Loudoun Schools deeply rooted for growth

Currently the state’s third largest school division, the LCPS opened its doors to a student body of 73,400 in the 2013-2014 school year, and even larger numbers are expected in the following years. This is due mainly to the reputation that Loudoun County High Schools and middle schools have acquired over the years. Loudoun Schools have a much lower dropout rate than any other county, according to Virginia’s Department of Education, with greater administration and instruction disbursements per pupil than other counties, more local funding than all others, and better teacher per student ratios.

The county also enjoys the greatest proportion of students related to the general population, and it has built more than 20 schools in the past 7 years to cope with the inflow of new students. The LCPS pledges to build many more Loudoun Schools in the near future and to maintain the current practice of opening at least one such institution before the start of every school year.

As change begets change, Loudoun Schools and their promising educational programs are bound to produce greater results with each passing year, fueling the changes and improvements we need to see not only in Loudoun County, but elsewhere in the state, nation and world.

LCPS – School Zoning Map

UPDATE:  We have the latest LCPS Boundary Maps – CLICK HERE – to go to the page with quick links.

John F. Kennedy once said that ‘change is the law of life’. In keeping with his views, Loudoun County, just a few miles away from Washington D.C., has changed dramatically over the span of the last decade. The 21st century came with an inflow of new people and a wave of financial growth.Loudoun County Public Schools SY 2015 - 16

Loudoun County Public Schools is Northern Virginia’s fastest growing school system and the 5th largest in the country, serving a 70,000-strong legion of students each year.

To release some of the pressure on Loudoun County High Schools, which have seen their student enrollment figures soar and even double by 2005, the LCPS has promptly pledged to open a brand-spanking new school come Labor Day of every year.  And with every new school, comes a change to the school zoning map and changes to multiple school boundaries.

Seems like ‘change is the law of Loudoun County Public Schools’ would be an apt adaptation of JFK’s statement!  The need to build more schools to keep up with growth inevitably gives any newcomer to Loudoun County a mild headache just trying to keep up with changes to the school zoning maps.  As if finding new homes for sale in Loudoun is not enough of a challenge, parents now have to sift through piles of outdated data to figure out which houses go to which schools on the right School Zone Map.

School Zoning Map Affects Loudoun County High Schools

There are currently 14 high-schools in Loudoun County, as of the original date of this post. The greatest changes to take effect of late are to the Aldie, Brambleton, Lansdowne and Ashburn area school zones. Rock Ridge High School, which is located next to the Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, opened in the school year of 2014-2015.

As LCPS carries out its plans, more Loudoun County High Schools (and Middle Schools and Elementary Schools!) will serve the growing community, but unfortunately many more changes to the school zoning map are bound to occur. Change continues with Riverside High School, next to the Belmont Ridge Middle School, opening in the Fall of 2015.

In the immediate future, school zone maps for John Champe HS, plus Stone Hill Middle School and other feeder schoools, will be affected. School boundaries have recently been changed, or will change soon, for Tuscarora High School, Stone Ridge High School, Briar Woods High School Belmont Ridge Middle School, alongside many more areas that fall in between attendance zones.

As local realtors, the NoVa Real Estate Group has access to information concerning future developments in the area, and is attuned to the inner workings of the community. If you’ve been affected by a change in school boundaries, or if you’d like to put down roots in Loudoun County and make the transition as seamless as possible for your children, access the School Zoning Map via our website – it’s Free – then call Nova Real Estate Group at 703-722-8831 for personal help finding homes for sale near Loudoun schools best for you.

Our team of experts can help you keep track and even anticipate some of the School Zoning Map changes to come.
